Doctor at Large

Ralph Thomas, UK, 1957, ?? minutes

Doctor At Large was the third entry in the long running Doctor series of films. Directed with great verve by Ralph Thomas (brother of Gerald, the director of the Carry On movies), it deals with the further madcap exploits of Dr Simon Sparrow (Dirk Bogarde), in particular his attempts at general practice.

Lighthearted throughout, it's an agreeably undemanding comedy designed to appeal right across the board. The cast of British dependables is very good - especially memorable is the totally irreplaceable James Robertson Justice as the overbearing Sir Lancelot Spratt. Banal the whole thing may be, funny it most certainly is.
