Robert Altman, USA, 1976, 161 minutes

Something of an epic, Altman's classic tale of country and western western rivalries and passions is built from dozens of seperate melodramas involving dozens of characters which combine to create a powerful (and funny) piece of work. Watch out for a young Jeff Goldblum playing the spaced-out scooter-riding drifter with big sunglasses - he literally just rides through the scenes on his bike. I can't possibly describe the plot, you just have to watch it emerge. Arrive early so that you don't miss the completely outrageous title sequence.
